About a year ago I discovered the EPW whilst listening to a podcast about the camino. Amazed that one could wander through four countries by foot over two weeks, with likeminded people, on a shoestring budget was never something I ever thought to be possible. I was hooked on the idea.

30 hours in Athens

If you only have a short stay in Athens booked, here’s what I’d recommend. After disembarking at Pireaus ferry terminal, Athens we were keen to check out the old town.

Hiking Aradena Gorge, Crete

Basing ourselves in Hora Sfakion, we’d wanted to walk Samaria Gorge because of it’s rave reviews of being THE BEST and THE BIGGEST gorge in Europe, but when I’d seen hundreds of people disembark from the ferry wharf and load into coaches, I’d had a change of heart.

Living Carefree in Crete

Pleased to be leaving the fuss of Santorini, we boarded our ferry to Heraklion (pronounced: ‘Air-aklion). Arriving in the late evening, jumped into our hire car to drive an hour south through the guts of Crete to the small hippy town of Matala before a few days in Hora Sfakion.
