Pleased to be leaving the fuss of Santorini, we boarded our ferry to Heraklion (pronounced: ‘Air-aklion). Arriving in the late evening, jumped into our hire car to drive an hour south through the guts of Crete to the small hippy town of Matala before a few days in Hora Sfakion.
Ahh Sifnos, the quaint little island two hours from Athens, small enough and high enough (682m) to welcome you without an overwhelming sense of feeling swallowed or lost rather, a feeling of coming home. Read on for more on our lovely four days in Sifnos.
Sifnos has been the perfect introduction into the Greek islands. Deserted alleyways, barren bars and even harder to find – open restaurants. Not that a little peace and quiet ever hurt anyone. It was just what the doctor ordered; a little peace and a lot of unwinding.
