From Taboga Island, we bid farewell to Soz (Moo’s mum) and made the hellish overnight bus ride from Panama City to Bocas del Toro and then Boquete.
We’ve been travelling abroad for six months now and learned an plethora of information about the different cultures, cuisines, histories and arts (to say the least). But what we really didn’t expect to learn was how it would actually look for us along the way.
Deciding to travel for a year came with a range of budgeting concerns. How would we last a whole year? What type of sacrifices would we have to make in order to travel comfortably for twelve months? For us, the one thing we’d been looking forward to testing out was staying in one place. Thankfully we found a way to do that without costing us a cent in accommodation!

Looking back on our two weeks in Umbria I am reminded of such fondness for the people, the food and the landscape. A memory I feel will last much longer than I expect. I half expect to reminisce about it for the rest of my life if I’m honest. I longed for the landscape without even realising.
Whilst our goal was to ensure that we travelled minimally with carry-on luggage, what we actually took with us needed to be good for the planet too.

Pleased to be leaving the fuss of Santorini, we boarded our ferry to Heraklion (pronounced: ‘Air-aklion). Arriving in the late evening, jumped into our hire car to drive an hour south through the guts of Crete to the small hippy town of Matala before a few days in Hora Sfakion.
