A string of bad luck, poor timing and late decision making resulted in a pretty turbulent few weeks for us in Northern Brazil. These past two weeks saw us leaving Taiba and heading north still, all the way to Jericoacoara (Jeri).

We’ve been travelling abroad for six months now and learned an plethora of information about the different cultures, cuisines, histories and arts (to say the least). But what we really didn’t expect to learn was how it would actually look for us along the way.
If you’re travelling to Cape Town in South Africa, I can guarantee you’ll also be visiting at least one of the many places along the Garden Route during your stay. We spent over a month making our way across!
Deciding to travel for a year came with a range of budgeting concerns. How would we last a whole year? What type of sacrifices would we have to make in order to travel comfortably for twelve months? For us, the one thing we’d been looking forward to testing out was staying in one place. Thankfully we found a way to do that without costing us a cent in accommodation!
After drinking far too much wine in the western cape, it was time for us to spread our wings and travel east. We were obviously keen to see the Big Five in the wild, but as our plans started to shrink (we were originally going to try and squeeze in Botswana/Namibia as well as South Africa) we knew there was far too much to experience in the west and south cape to see the real deal.

By that I mean, I’d like to share with you some of the remarkable wineries we’ve visited in S.A whilst explaining a little about the feminist issues facing S.A, that I picked up on. Rest assured boys, the patriarchy is alive and thriving within the Afrikaans community down in S.A.
For anyone attempting to drive the Cape Town peninsula in a day, this is a great guide to follow! I highly recommend getting away from the hussle of the city and into the open roads of dramatic scenery, surf beaches and seriously cute penguins along the way.
